Cloud Star Buddy Wash, Lavender & Mint Pet Shampoo Versus Natural Oatmeal Shampoo by Eight in One

Owning an older dog can come with added responsibilities. One unexpected personal care issue I found for my older dog Wiley was what kind of shampoos to use on him affected his skin. As his skin aged I noticed that he had areas where fur was beginning to thin. He also had sores that would appear more easily. On the hunt to properly care for an elderly dog I have used quite a few different gentle dog shampoos. I found Cloud Star Buddy Wash, Lavender & Mint Pet Shampoo and Natural Oatmeal Shampoo by Eight in One at my local pet store. I bought them because they advertised that they were either gentle or organic/ naturally soothing. My vet also recommended Cloud Star Buddy Wash as a good alternative for caring for and cleaning my elderly dog.

Cleaning

Cloud Star Buddy Wash, Lavender & Mint Pet Shampoo and Natural Oatmeal Shampoo by Eight In One both write on their bottle that they will be gentler cleansers for any pet, but I have to admit I was a little concerned that they would not be able to deal with the strong smell and dirt that my dog, as well as many others out there, can accumulate. I found that the Cloud Star Buddy Wash, Lavender & Mint Pet Shampoo was very sudsy when I washed my dog. It lathered well and really did a great job cleaning him. He definitely lost that dog smell for about two whole days. Too bad I can’t wash him once a week! I bought Natural Oatmeal Shampoo by Eight In One after I ran out of my Cloud Star Buddy Wash, Lavender & Mint Pet Shampoo and could not find it again at the drug store. I bought the Natural Oatmeal Shampoo by Eight In One after reading the bottle. It said that it was soothing and helped heal sensitive skin wile leaving the coat shiny and clean. I have to admit I was a little disappointed because it did not get nearly as sudsy as the other Cloud Star Buddy Wash, Lavender & Mint Pet Shampoo. Wiley did seem to be clean after I rinsed him off. He was definitely soft and did not smell strongly of the usual dog smell. Overall though, he did not smell as great as he did with the Cloud Star Buddy Wash, Lavender & Mint Pet Shampoo.

Soothing

The Cloud Star Buddy Wash, Lavender & Mint Pet Shampoo and Natural Oatmeal Shampoo seemed to be equally soothing. Wiley did not seem to have any problems of irritation that developed form either one of these shampoos. I do have to say that using a special shampoo that is gentle on the skin has helped him be less sensitive about any sore areas of his skin while he is being washed. Neither the Cloud Star Buddy Wash, Lavender & Mint Pet Shampoo nor the Natural Oatmeal Shampoo by Eight In One seemed to make him more sensitive while being washed.

Smell

I always want to keep Wiley smelling as good as possible after a bath, so smell is an important consideration for me when buying a dog shampoo. The Cloud Star Buddy Wash, Lavender & Mint Pet Shampoo had a beautiful fresh herbal smell with a touch of fresh mint that left old Wiley smelling like he belonged in my house. The Natural Oatmeal Shampoo did not leave him smelling like anything necessarily, but at least he did not smell like a dog for a while! If you like a natural smelling shampoo minus the heavy perfumes you might like the Natural Oatmeal Shampoo by Eight In One.

Overall I have to agree with my vet and recommend the Cloud Star Buddy Wash, Lavender & Mint Pet Shampoo over the Natural Oatmeal Shampoo by Eight In One. Both did clean Wiley, which was great, but the Cloud Star Buddy Wash, Lavender & Mint Pet Shampoo smeeled better, lasted longer, and was sudsier.
